Chapter 7-Summary: Gatsby is upset that Daisy isn't showing up to any of this parties so he cancles all his parties because only reason he had them was so she would come. He also fires all his people so they don't spread anything around about him. After Gatsby does all this Nick takes a trip to East Egg to have lunch at Tom and Daisy's place when he gets there he finds that Gatsby and Jordan Baker are there as well. Then a nurse brings out Daisy's baby and Gatsby is very shocked to know that it is hers he thinks it is unreal. Daisy doesn't really seem to want to see her baby and wants to go into the city with Gatsby. They just can't hide their love. They all go into the city and decide to get a hotel. Tom then starts to call Gatsby a lying because of everything he has told them. They get into a fight over Daisy and about how she loves one of them and not the other. While they are driving back they find a fatal car crash on the road.

Response: I think Gatsby is doing a lot to try and be with Daisy. He has done some much to try and get her. He just thinks that she is the one and only. Tom thinks the same but hasn't done much for her because he isn't as popular and doesn't have the time of money Gatsby does. I don't think money buys love and Gatsby shouldn't lie to win her over. She should like him for the man he is.

1. Why do they repeat it?
Because they want to make it personal to one person the King of Britain and not the people so they dont start any war or anything and that way it is more personal.
2. Why do they make it personal?
So they know who did it because it states he and that means the king so if he breaks a law they know that it is him that did it

If they wont to do this or not it is the necessary thing for them to do

It shows the importance of each thing by giving examples for each one

parallelism: when a writer uses similar grammatical forms or sentence patterns to express ideas of equal importance.


5.What to you is the most convincing example stated in the D.I.? Why?

Mark Twain

Mark Twain's real name is Samuel Clemens. He is a phenomenal author. Hes best known for the two books Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Twain's books are very controversial because they have a lot to do with his own life and other people dont agree with his life and have different views.

When he was a teenager, Twain worked as an apprentice printer. Twain also served during the American Civil War. During his service, he'd formed a Confederate militia group known as the "Marion Rangers". After two weeks, the group was disbanded. He left Missouri after the militia had disbanded and moved to Nevada, where he would work as a miner.

Irony in literature is a technique of indicating, as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.

Jules Verne was a French author who helped pioneer the science-fiction genre. Mark Twain and Jules Verne were both very good authors and they lived in the same time.

Romantic Writers:
-Saw limitaion of reason and age of reason
-celebrated induvial spirit of emotion and imagination of basic elements of human nature.

The Devil and Tom Walker:

Crucible test notes

Act 1
The Crucible takes place in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The whole town is ran by religion, God and the rules of the town. The re Parris is all about the church and believes everything that is done should be done for God and nobody else. He is very religious. He found his daughter dancing in the woods with many other women. Some of the women were naked and he was very shocked and surprised with what he found is daughter doing because he is her daughter and should not be doing anything like that. He thought she was practicing witch craft. She denied doing any of that and blamed it on other women. Eliz Proctor thought something was wrong with her too because of the way she was acting and she didnt like her because she liked her husband John.

Act 2
John and his wife a mad because Eliz went to the witch trails and she was told to stay away. Many women were accussed of practicing witch craft and they were sent to his trail. Forteen girls went to jail because Abigail accused them of witch craft. In the town if anyone is even acussed of witch craft they will be hung if they dont confess up to it.

Act 3
John and Mary go to trial to testify. Mary tells everybody that he and the girls were just pretending that the craft affected them. The judge really doesn't know what to do. The court was getting upset when they asked John questions. They were asking John if he wanted to over throw the court and thats not what the court wanted to happen. During the trial the girls started screaming and saying that Mary's spirt was taking them over and getting to them. They were going out lof control.

Act 4
John is acussed of witch craft as well witch is a really shocking thing. In this act he signs that he has done it even tho he hasnt done anything to do with witch craft. So once he signs his confession but doesnt want it to be hung on the church door so he signs it and says isnt that enough that i confessed it doesnt have to go on the church door. He refuses to have it put on the door. In doing so he is hung and killed.
